On April 1 in Shanghai, Maison Margiela unveiled its Fall/Winter 2026 collection and announced the launch of the “Maison Margiela/folders” exhibition project.

The show marked Maison Margiela’s first fashion show in China, presenting the ready-to-wear and Artisanal collections simultaneously. Ultra-limited “couture” pieces were revealed alongside products to be sold in stores worldwide—an updated re-creation of the house’s early tradition of showing Artisanal and ready-to-wear in parallel.

Across the collection, second-skin garments, Bianchetto white paint, combinations of unconventional materials and contrasting fabrics, and assemblage techniques were applied in harmony, while masks were added to every look to underscore anonymity.

In addition, the accessories line boosted the collection’s completeness with the debut of the new “Link Bag,” along with a range of footwear, bags, and jewelry.

Launched alongside the collection reveal, the “Maison Margiela/folders” project begins in Shanghai and continues to Beijing, Chengdu, and Shenzhen, expanding the brand’s core codes across a range of themes.

The first chapter, “Artisanal: Creative Laboratory,” opens April 2 on Shanghai’s Yandang Road. It features a curated selection spanning the house’s history—from the ceramic-plate waistcoat from the Fall/Winter 1989 season to the Edwardian wax-treated dress from the FW26 show.

The second chapter, “Anonymity: A History of the Mask,” will be unveiled on April 7 at the Zhengyici Peking Opera Theatre in Beijing. Bringing together 46 new and archival masks—from the very first mask in the Spring/Summer 1989 debut show to masks from the latest FW26 collection—it explores the reinterpretation of identity and a creative language expressed through masks.

Then, on April 9, “Tabi: A Collector Exhibition” in Chengdu will see nine Tabi collectors from around the world recreate rare pairs and their personal wardrobes, showing how Tabi is worn, preserved, and customized in real life.

Exhibition materials and installation-related documents will be released via the Maison Margiela/folders Dropbox and will be continuously updated as the project progresses.

Meanwhile, NCT’s Mark, actress Lee Yoo-mi, and Zion.T attended the April 1 show.
