The British footwear brand Dr. Martens has announced four winners of the partnership project with students from the Central Saint Martins (CSM) MA Fashion course, which started last August.
Dr. Martens Creative Director Darren McKoy and CSM MA Fashion Course Leader Fabio Piras led a panel of judges that selected four students, Finlay Roberts, Yanya Cheng, Traiceline Pratt, and Valeria Pulici, out of nine innovative young designers. The winning students each received a scholarship of £5,000 (approximately 8.4 million KRW) and the opportunity to develop their custom-designed 1460 boots prototypes directly with Dr. Martens' design and production team at the Northamptonshire factory in the UK.
Having showcased rebellious self-expression, excellent durability, and craftsmanship for over 60 years, the 1460 boots have been reborn as the first silhouette of Dr. Martens, shaping the brand's past, present, and future. The 1460 has been revitalized with stories from some of the world's most iconic fashion designers, from the rebellious street style of Jean Paul Gaultier to Comme des Garçons and Yohji Yamamoto.
Through this partnership, students have taken the 1460 boots as a canvas to express their unique creativity, transforming the overall look of the boots in their own style, injecting new life into the brand's rebellious DNA.
The participating students were invited to Dr. Martens' heart, the Cobbs Lane Factory, for an exclusive factory tour and to experience the detailed design process. All content produced from the partnership has been archived by SXWKS, a London-based collective that produces art and supports talent across various regions.
