OTW by Vans X Sterling Ruby, Unveils First Collaboration Collection

The original action sports/lifestyle brand Vans presents the first collaboration collection of OTW by Vans with artist Sterling Ruby.

S.R. STUDIO. LA. CA. is an apparel and accessories collection that American artist Sterling Ruby has developed over ten years using textile. The collection, which goes beyond the calendar's scope, is based on Sterling's diverse works including sculpture, film, textile, photography, and painting.

The first meeting between OTW by Vans and S.R. STUDIO. LA. CA. has given birth to a completely new style at Vans. The 'Clash the Wall' sneakers feature silhouettes of four Vans icons: Old Skool 36, Authentic, Mid-Skool 77, and Sk8-Hi, with monochromatic neon green and orange shades reminiscent of Sterling Ruby’s signature works.

The first sneakers born from the long-term partnership between S.R. STUDIO. LA. CA. and OTW by Vans are a fusion of Sterling Ruby's artwork and the innovative spirit inherent in Vans' skateboarding heritage. Photographer Jack Bool conducted the shoot in his studio located in Vernon, California, to spotlight the new 'Clash the Wall' footwear style, where much of this collaboration and design process took place.

“I love skateboarding, and I still enjoy it. To me, skateboarding is the essence of freedom. Even the simple act of rolling down a green slope or making a curve shows that it is a rebellious sport that defies gravity. This collaboration with Vans is a personal collaboration for me and the first for S.R. STUDIO. LA. CA. The brand Vans, defining a certain history of the West Coast, caught my eye. Founded in 1966, Vans has been operating with numerous skaters and bands until now, and it has influenced my work, my studio's overall operation,” said Sterling Ruby.

Under the direction of OTW by Vans' Global Creative Director Ian Ginoza, the partnership with S.R. STUDIO. LA. CA. has opened a new chapter for Vans' product innovation. “OTW represents a new interpretation of Vans' future, rooted in the history of Vans skateboarding and design. Sterling honors Vans' design spirit by creating something new using Vans' iconic designs,” conveyed Ian Ginoza.

To celebrate the launch of OTW by Vans x S.R. STUDIO. LA. CA., Vans collaborated with PLAYLAB, INC to create skate installations in downtown LA. This temporary monument, which recreates the steep slopes famous for San Francisco skateboarding, is based on the 'Clash the Wall' style with ramps divided and finished in bold neon colors.

The collaboration collection will be released worldwide on February 29th (priced at 185,000 KRW), and new updates from OTW by Vans will be announced on official social accounts and the Korea launch will be revealed through Vans Korea.
