Fall-Winter 2021 Women's Fashion Trends: Elegantly Evolved 'Comfort'

Written by Ethan  on 27 Aug, 2021

In the Fall-Winter '21 season, as life continues to revolve around staying at home or nearby, fashion focusing on 'comfort' in all activities such as rest, work, and going out still receives attention. Loungewear and two-mile wear evolve with premium materials, minimal decoration, and elegant silhouettes, emphasizing a relaxed comfort style atmosphere. Silhouettes that snugly envelop the body become increasingly important, with ponchos, robe-style outers, soft knit cardigans/knit sets, and pajama dressing making a significant appearance.

Samsung Fashion Division's KUHO aims this fall season to complete a sophisticated comfort style with modern designs, relaxed fits, and luxurious materials by pairing a warm ivory-colored knit pullover with jogger pants, and matching a black knit hoodie dress with a padded vest.

LEBEIGE has unveiled a collection that simultaneously emphasizes comfort and elegance, reflecting the 'at home' trend. The collection includes satin dresses with a natural wrinkle effect, neoprene blouses and pants with rounded silhouettes, and slim rib-knit pullovers, all featuring a simple appearance with a touch of Korean aesthetic and couture.

#Innovative ‘New Office Look’

As flexible work environments become the norm and the WFH (Work From Home) lifestyle continues, casual items that blur the lines between home and office life have become everyday essentials. Home office fashion stands out for its mix and match and layering styling, capable of handling both indoor and outdoor activities.

Freely mixed outfits that reflect individuality, combining formal jackets, soft silhouette shirts/dresses, and casual, sporty sweatshirts and jogger pants, complete a new and diverse office look. Styling focusing more on tops than bottoms, and on inner layers rather than outerwear, is expanding.

The trend of keyboard dressing, which emphasizes the upper body for video conferencing, continues, making blouses, shirts, and sweaters with eye-catching designs popular.

kuho plus suggests mix and match styling that crosses formal, casual, and one-mile wear this season, by coordinating signature items such as tailored jackets with sweatshirts and jogger pants or caps, or layering casual hoodies with striped shirts and matching with H-line skirts.

kuho has launched a variety of notable tops, including blouses with modern architectural prints and voluminous sleeves, high-neck blouses with rich silhouettes, and basic shirts in impressive purple colors.

#Classics that evoke 'Nostalgia'

Designs that evoke nostalgia for the past are expected to be greatly loved. Classic materials like tweed and knit, along with heritage items such as check jackets, cable sweaters, and duffle coats, will come to the forefront.

Particularly, cable knits deserve attention, with innovations such as cropped lengths and relaxed silhouettes, or layering with contrasting light materials like satin and lace, making a distinctive statement.

Beanpole Ladies has crafted its cable knit selection this season with sensuous colors and new designs.

Basic round neck cable knits have been brightened with colors like wine, sky blue, pink, and ivory, and have also modernly reinterpreted the cable knit pattern and silhouette made famous by legendary tennis player William Tilden in the Tilden sweater.

Additionally, the brand has featured the classic Harris Tweed jacket as a key item this autumn, introducing miniskirts and set outfits along with offering an oversized fit for a natural chic look alongside the regular fit.

#Fail-safe ‘Tone on Tone’ and Hopeful ‘Color Therapy’

This fall-winter season predominantly utilizes natural atmosphere colors like beige and brown, neutral colors, as well as colors inspired by nature such as khaki and a warm off-white.

Specifically, the ‘one color’ or ‘tone on tone’ styling, previously known colloquially as ‘matching’, which unifies the color of tops/bottoms or outer/inner wears, is strong.

This preference has emerged as consumers seek to reduce outfit planning complexity and pursue comfort, finding these simple yet stylish one color or tone on tone methods most accessible.

LEMAIRE demonstrated the essence of tone on tone using subdued colors like green, brown, and gray.

It suggested outfits of restrained elegance, such as matching a deep green trench coat with a shirt/pants in the green spectrum but in different tones, and coordinating wool coats with jacket/pants sets in a unified gray color.

This season, vibrant colors like yellow and red also appear, expressing hope and optimism amidst the prolonged pandemic. PLAN C introduced lively styling with a yellow knit pullover and A-line skirt, a purple single jacket and pleated skirt, and a knit vest with playful patterns in brown and orange.

Im Ji-yeon, head of Samsung Fashion Institute, stated, "As life continues to center around the home, fashion trends focusing on comfort remain strong. This season, we will pay special attention to elegantly evolved comfort styles, innovative office looks mixing different moods, and simple yet sophisticated tone on tone styling."
