Dior 2024-2025 Men's Winter Collection, 'Presenting the First-Ever Men's Couture'
On January 19th (local time), the French luxury fashion house Dior presented its 2024-2025 Men's Winter Collection in Paris, France.
Dior's Men's Artistic Director Kim Jones presented the first-ever men's couture collection, inspired by dancer Rudolf Nureyev. The collection, blending ready-to-wear with a distinctive couture approach, explores the theme of living two lives, as embodied by Nureyev.
The collection is centered around cleanliness, excellence, comfort, and strong principles. Tailoring inspired by the archives, focusing on volume, vents, pleats, and necklines, offers a unique charm in menswear. Monsieur Dior's BAR suit, harmoniously paired with Kim Jones' first Dior collection's OBLIQUE, appeared in a new masculine design with a long double-breasted wrap and a soft bar-shaped waist curve.
The clean styles of the 1960s and 1970s were completed with single-breasted designs and soft flare suit trousers in wool mélange off-tones. Zip-up wool jumpsuits and shorts, lightweight rib knits, and leather materials transformed into duffle-style outerwear all reflect Nureyev's personal style and the look of a dancer.
The couture section contrasted this, showcasing Rudolf Nureyev's flamboyant and unique presence, confidence, and elegant dignity on stage. It also fully encapsulated his secret passion for antique textile collection, with artisans bringing out these elements in kimonos created through ancient handcrafting techniques.
In accessories, details inspired by Nureyev can be found. Clean San Crispino leather shoes, reminiscent of dance slippers, contrast with silk polyester Mary Jane men's sneakers. Moreover, a lavish velvet hat originally created by Stephen Jones in 1999 for Dior women's wear was reimagined in a twist silk jersey turban design for the men's collection.
The collection show featured the song "Dance of the Knights," reinterpreted by music director Max Richter, originally from the 1965 British ballet performance of Romeo and Juliet, in which Nureyev had starred for 20 years with partner Margot Fonteyn.
The collection show was graced by the presence of Dior ambassador actor Jung Hae-in, Tomorrow X Together (TXT), and NewJeans member Haerin.
