On January 21st at 2 AM, Maison Valentino's 2024 Autumn/Winter men's collection was showcased at the Paris Mint (MONNAIE DE PARIS).
Maison's Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli, in this collection, suggests a wardrobe for the modern man through a newly reconsidered language of color.
The traditional masculinity represented by blue is reinterpreted, becoming a modern expression of contemporary masculinity.
Traditionally symbolizing femininity, the blue color, along with other colors, has been reinterpreted to reflect the changing perception of masculinity in men. This reinterpretation includes the sky blue color, acting as a catalyst and means for free thinking and reassessment of the meaning of masculinity.
Color can be reinterpreted, and likewise, new perceptions of masculinity involving softness, variability, delicacy, and elegance, as well as strength found through gentleness, have shifted perspectives on the definition of masculinity.
To create a gentle gentleman, softened tailoring, gestures combining haute couture with sartorial tailoring, and added embroidery decorations can change the identity beneath the surface.
A technique named 'Valentino AltoRilievo' (high relief), used for sculptural forms, opens a window inside the garment across the jacket's shoulder, breaking and subverting the typical form of masculine emphasis. The garments originate from a timeless men's wardrobe and are grounded in reality.
Furthermore, on the runway of the 'Valentino Ciel 20.24' collection, the Maison's iconic V logo is reinterpreted in a modern style as 'VLogo The Bold Edition', featuring a new form of lock on the bags.
The collection is completed with new men's bags like the 'Valentino Garavani VLogo Moon Bag', employing new materials and sizes for men, and the 'Gentleglam' and 'Runboot', Valentino's signature formal shoes enhanced with stud details and new sneakers, respectively.
