On March 12, 2024, the Italian luxury fashion house brand MaxMara unveiled its 2024 Spring-Summer collection 'An army of women', inspired by British women of the 1940s.
This collection was inspired by the Women’s Land Army, where women from all walks of life in Britain during the 1940s organized agricultural groups in rural and urban areas to cultivate the land and enrich the nation together.
The Women's Land Army encouraged creative activities among women at the time; in 'The Land Girl' magazine, female farmers published literary works, and Vita Sackville-West, a poet of the time, also wrote poems that captured their stories in 1944.
As the collection name 'An army of women' suggests, it features attractive workwear looks with a military twist. Notably, big-sized pocket skirts, jackets, riding pants, and siren suits are enhanced with sturdy stitching and suspender details to maximize utility elements, which are then presented in a vibrant and colorful palette reminiscent of a British garden.
Moreover, the collection also features an array of looks with diverse prints inspired by the garden of Vita Sackville-West located in Sissinghurst, England, including dresses and triple-layered chiffon dresses with gabardine straps.
